Morningstar's TriStar is the world's leading solar controller for both professional and consumer applications:
The controller is a three-function controller that provides reliable solar battery charging, load control or diversion regulation

The TriStar-60 operates at 12V to 48V. Similar 60 amp controllers only operate at 12V and 24V.


The TriStar has a much larger heatsink so it may be used to its full "nameplate" rating up to 45°C. Similar controllers have a very small heatsink, are only rated to 40°C, and should be de-rated 20%. For example, their 40A "nameplate" rating should be de-rated to 32A. So the TS-45 provides 40% more current!

The TriStar has a 5 year warranty. Similar controllers have only a 2 year warranty.

The TriStar's code allowable wire size is larger (2 AWG/35mm2) and has more wire bending room. Similar controllers' code allowable wire size is only 6 AWG (16 mm2) and have very little wire bending room.

The TriStar's printed circuit board is conformably coated for protection against humidity and nesting insects. Similar controllers do not have this protection and should not be used in tropical or marine environments.

The TriStar comes standard with an RS-232 comm port for custom set points, data logging and remote monitoring, Similar controllers do not have an RS-232.
